Fire crews knock down two structure fires Wednesday

Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire crews were called to two structure fires Wednesday, but no injuries were reported.

At 10:40 a.m., crews were called to 11-3333 Pa Alii St. in Royal Hawaiian Estates and found smoke pouring out of a utility and storage building.

Authorities believe a portable stove may have been the cause, but launched an investigation.

The blaze was extinguished by 11 a.m. and damage was estimated at $5,000.

Neighbors reported they were watching the property for a friend, but there were no occupants when smoke was seen coming out from under the eaves of the 40-foot by 40-foot building.

Later Thursday, fire razed a Pahoa home, causing an estimated $90,000 in damage.

Firefighters were called to Mauna Kea Road in Nanawale Estates and arrived to find the wooden post-and-pier house fully involved in flames.

Crews had the blaze under control at 2:40 p.m. and extinguished at 4:20 p.m.

No one was in home at the time.
