Police DUI stats for the week of January 20-26, 2014

During the week of January 20, 2014, through January 26, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 101 DUI arrests compared with 83 during the same period last year, an increase of 21.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 91 major accidents so far this year compared with 91 during the same period last year.

So far this year, there have been three traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with six during the same period last year, a decrease of 50 percent.

To date, no fatalities were related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
