Parker debaters win another trophy

MEDIA RELEASE

Parker School’s debate team returned home from the Punahou School Speech and Debate Non-Qualifying Tournament last month on Oahu with the sweepstakes trophy for largest number of ballots won.

Parker earned 65 ballots to second-place Punahou’s 46.

Parker has now won this particular sweepstakes trophy at all three tournaments so far this school year, a first in the school’s debate record.

At the previous tournament at St. Louis School on Oahu in November, Parker won two trophies, one for highest percentage of wins and one for the largest number of ballots won.

The team has won four out of six possible sweepstakes trophies over the three tournaments.

Thirty Parker School debaters attended the Punahou tournament in which 20 schools participated.

The top results for Parker students were:

* Beginning Public Forum Debate, Ryp Ring and Brian Toubman scored 5-1

* Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Savannah Harriman-Pote scored 5-1

* Championship Lincoln-Douglas, Carrie Hiller finished 5-1
