Gabbard welcomes Kaneakua as Hawaii District director

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has welcomed Col. (Ret.) Walt Kaneakua to her Honolulu office as her Hawaii District director.

A former Air Force command pilot, Walt retired after 27 years of active-duty service with the U.S. Air Force and the Hawaii Air National Guard. He flew as a captain for Aloha Airlines, and later served on Sen. Daniel Inouye’s Honolulu staff as his Executive Assistant for Military Affairs.

He served U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono as a senior military affairs officer during her transition from the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I am proud to announce Walt Kaneakua has joined my team as the Hawaii District director, bringing with him 32 years of public service and experience,” Gabbard said. “His deep commitment to serving Hawaii and our country, as well as his thorough knowledge of military, economic and Hawaiian affairs, will serve our constituents well as we constantly work towards addressing Hawaii’s key priorities and needs. I look forward to working closely with Walt to provide the best possible constituent services and community outreach across our islands.”

“I consider it high privilege to continue in service to the people of Hawaii, by joining Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard’s team,” Kaneakua said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to support her as she continues her tremendous efforts on behalf of Hawaii’s citizens and especially for service members and veterans, care for our kupuna and keiki, and creating job prospects for a 21st century economy.”
