Kailua Village Business Improvement District (KVBID) is launching a series of new events and activities in 2014 which will boost Historic Kailua Village as an active, engaging, fun and interesting destination for residents and visitors.
Each Tuesday beginning Jan. 7 anyone can join Historic Kailua Village’s Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk.
Big Island Running Company is coordinating non-competitive free weekly fun runs, which will begin at their Alii Drive store location at 5 p.m., turn around at Makaeo Pavilion (Old Airport), and return to the point of origin.
Visitors, residents, children, anyone and everyone are invited to join the community camaraderie and help promote active, healthy lifestyles.
More than 6 million geocachers worldwide will note that Historic Kailua Village will soon be added to the world’s list of nearly two-million geocache locations.
Navigating through historic locations along oceanfront Alii Drive, geocachers must use a GPS-enabled device in an attempt to find the geocache of historic and cultural treasures found on Royal footsteps Along the Kona Coast – a Hawaii Scenic Byway in Historic Kailua Village.
“Building on Kailua Village Business Improvement District’s Strategic Plan and on Historic Kailua Village’s designation as TripAdvisor’s top US Destination on the Rise, KVBID’s goal in 2014 is to up the fun, promote active, healthy lifestyles, and add a variety of events and activities that families, residents and visitors can all enjoy,” said Eric von Platen Luder, KVBID president.

These events join existing Historic Kailua Village events which include the monthly Kokua Kailua when Alii Drive becomes a pedestrian-only walkway, September’s Kau Kau Kailua promoting dining deals throughout the district and the annual Kailua Kalikimaka festivities.
The new 2014 events are sponsored in part by County of Hawaii Department of Research & Development and the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
