Kealakehe to compete at LifeSmarts state finals

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) Office of the Securities Commissioner has announced the qualifying teams of the LifeSmarts Hawaii Competition who will now compete in the state finals Saturday, Feb. 8 at the State Capitol Auditorium.

The four teams are Kealakehe High School, Farrington High School and two teams from Waipahu High School.

The winners of the state finals will represent Hawaii at the National LifeSmarts Competition from April 26-29, 2014, in Orlando, Fla.

“Congratulations to all the coaches and students who participated and hopefully learned valuable life skills through the LifeSmarts curriculum. We look forward to seeing you in February at the State Capitol,” Hawaii Securities Commissioner Tung Chan said.

LifeSmarts is a consumer education competition that tests teens in grades 6-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities.

The LifeSmarts Hawaii program is sponsored by the DCCA Office of the Securities Commissioner in partnership with the Hawaii Credit Union League and the National Consumers League.
