Police DUI stats for the week of December 16-22, 2013

During the week of December 16, 2013, through December 22, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 36 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,314 DUI arrests compared with 1,456 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,290 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,426 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.5 percent.

So far this year, there were 25 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 38 during the same period last year, a decrease of 34.2 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
