Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Kilauea Avenue was temporarily closed Monday morning after a contractor accidentally struck a natural gas line near the Aupuni Street intersection.

Public Works notified emergency response and Hawaii Gas crews.

The leak started at 6:58 a.m. and was plugged by Hawaii Gas at 7:20 a.m. The road was reopened at 9:20 a.m. after Hawaii Gas cut off the abandoned gas line at the main and plugged it.

The line is no longer in service.

No injures were reported.

The repaving project is scheduled for completion by the end of the month.
