‘Culinary Arts Under the Stars’ at Kings’ Shops (Jan. 18)

MEDIA RELEASE

Kings’ Shops will once again be partnering with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Kona Kohala Chefs Association with the return of the Culinary Arts Under the Stars event Jan. 18, 2014.

“Last year’s event was a great success. We have created a terrific partnership and together we raised money to equip the teaching kitchens at Palamanui,” said Steven Schwartz, Kings’ Shops general manager. “This year we will raise funds for the ACF Chef & Child Foundation programs which will benefit children right here on Hawaii Island.”

Over the last 14 years, Chef Jean Hull, a graduate of Michigan State University, and longtime resident of Hawaii Island has developed and delivered nutrition awareness programs with chapter member support to more than 2,000 children each in Kona and Kohala.

“The ACF Chef & Child programs focus on the importance of the food groups as they contribute to a nutritious diet aimed at achieving good health and proper growth for children,” Hull said.

Hull’s goal has been to teach students in every second grade class the importance of good nutrition through a simple cooking activity at their desks followed by a nutritional video and talk story while the students prepare a smart sandwich at their desk, then a delicious fruit kabob dipped in yogurt.

“It is so rewarding to give these keiki concepts for making wise food choices for good health and giving children a gift that lasts a lifetime,” she said.

Join Kings’ Shops and the ACF Kona Kohala Chef Association at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 for an evening of fun and good food.

Tickets go on sale Dec. 14, 2013.
