Police DUI stats for the week of November 25-December 1, 2013

During the week of November 25, 2013, through December 1, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,213 DUI arrests compared with 1,359 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,219 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,352 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.8 percent.

So far this year, there were 25 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 37 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.4 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
