Police determine Hilo sexual assault report was false

Police report they are investigating a sexual assault Tuesday (Nov. 19) in Hilo.

A police press release stated “a woman was reportedly attacked in the bathroom of a state facility in the Waiakea area of Hilo around 4:30 p.m.”

However, an entry in the UH Hilo Daily Public Crime Log states: “A female was sexually assaulted in the College Hall C bathroom. Security and HPD responded and generated a Sexual Assault investigation.”

Police reported the victim was able to fight off her attacker, who fled in a 2003-2006 red Ford Expedition with tan or gold on the bottom.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, 6-feet tall, 160-180 pounds with a thin build, curly blond hair and facial acne. He was wearing a white tank top and black surf shorts.

Police have concluded their investigation of a reported sexual assault that reportedly occurred on Tuesday, November 19th, in a bathroom at a State Facility in Hilo. The investigation revealed that the incident did not occur, and the case has been closed as being unfounded. A False Report investigation has been initiated.
