Hospice of Hilo offers free holiday season workshop (Nov. 20)

MEDIA RELEASE

Hospice of Hilo is offering Grief and the Holiday Season, a free community workshop.

The workshop is 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Hospice of Hilo Community Center located at 1011 Waianuenue Avenue.

“As the days get shorter and the shadows of the season grow longer, managing grief can get more and more challenging; especially during the holidays. Questions of how do we begin to fill the emptiness we feel when it seems everyone else is overflowing with joy seems to arise for many going through the process of losing a loved one,” Hospice of Hilo Community Bereavement Counselor Cathy Hough said.

“There is often a tremendous amount of anxiety and apprehension for single parents about spending their first holiday season with out the other parent,” Hough said.

At the workshop participants will learn coping strategies and enjoy making a commemorative art project.

According to Bereavement Counselor Anjali Kala, “Creating rituals and traditions can often help as a coping tool. It is also a way for kids to feel involved and incorporate their ideas.”

The workshop is open to all who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

For further information or to sign up, call Cathy Hough at 969-1733.
