High surf advisory issued for Hawaiian islands

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for North and East facing shores of the Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday (Nov 11).

Surf is forecast to be in the 12-18 feet along North facing shores and eight to 12 feet along East facing shores of the islands with slightly lower surf along Big Island shores.

Moderate harbor surges may occur within North facing harbors mainly in Kahului and Hilo due to a large North Northeast swell.

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday (Nov 11) for all Hawaiian waters.

Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don’t go out.

Boaters should expect recreational surfers and bodyboarders using harbor channels to access surfing areas.
