Police DUI stats for the week of October 28-November 3, 2013

During the week of October 28, 2013, through November 3, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 32 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Six were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,101 DUI arrests compared with 1,229 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,131 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,240 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.8 percent.

So far this year, there were 23 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 36 during the same period last year, a decrease of 36.1 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
