By Hawaii 24/7 Staff UPDATED (10/26/2013 at 7:31 PM)

Hawaii County remains under a flood advisory until 9:45 p.m. tonight (Oct 26).

At 6:35 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain near Kawa Flats and Hawaii Ocean View Estates. The area of heavy rain was moving slowly West towards Milolii. This area of heavy rain is upslope of Naalehu and Punaluu Beach.

Campers and hikers should avoid low lying flood prone areas. People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

A flash flood watch is also in effect for all Hawaiian Islands through Sunday evening.

Weather conditions will be favorable for the development of thunderstorms with possible funnel clouds through 6 p.m.

If thunderstorms occur…seek shelter to protect yourself from lightning. If funnel clouds extend to the ground…they can produce dangerous winds. remain alert for changing weather conditions and stay tuned to NOAA weather radio…or local media sources for further information.
