Police DUI stats for the week of October 14-20, 2013

During the week of October 14, 2013, through October 20, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,049 DUI arrests compared with 1,157 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,089 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,179 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 23 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 33 during the same period last year, a decrease of 30.3 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs (5), alcohol (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
