Kahoohanohano named Hale Hoola Hamakua interim administrator

The East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) announces the appointment of Teana M. N. Kahoohanohano as Interim Administrator of Hale Hoola Hamakua in Honokaa.

“Ms. Kahoohanohano has proven talents in improving quality of care and life for long term care residents,” said Howard N. Ainsley, East Hawaii Regional CEO of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. “Her style of leadership will have positive impact in guiding the staff at Hale Hoola Hamakua.”

Ainsley added, “I would like to thank outgoing Administrator Cathy Meyer-Uyehara for her leadership in Honokaa since 2009 and wish her the best in her next steps.”

Kahoohanohano joined Hilo Medical Center on July 9, 2012 as Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Services Director.

She gained leadership experience at facilities managed by Avalon Health Care, Inc. in California and Hawaii, her employer since 2007. She returned to Hawaii to serve as Administrator of the 95-bed Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home.

Before returning to Hawaii, Kahoohanohano was an Administrator and Administrator-in-Training at Avalon’s Westgate Manor in Madera, Calif.

Originally from Maui, Kahoohanohano holds a Masters Degree in Health Policy & Administration from Washington State University and a Bachelors Degree in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the University of Southern California.

Hale Hoola Hamakua facility, originally known as Honokaa Hospital, has served the healthcare needs of the communities of Hamakua, North Hawaii and South Kohala since 1951.

In November 1995, the current facility was opened above the old hospital, to provide long term care services. The facility was renamed Hale Hoola Hamakua (Haven of Wellness in Hamakua) in 1997 to reflect its new focus.

In 2010, the Maile Wing was added to the facility to bring the total number of bed up to 77.

Hale Hoola Hamakua is a part of the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public corporation established in 1996 by the State of Hawaii to fulfill the promise to provide quality, hometown healthcare.
