Police DUI stats for the week of October 7-13, 2013

During the week of October 7, 2013, through October 13, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 16 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,021 DUI arrests compared with 1,114 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,064 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,146 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 23 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 32 during the same period last year, a decrease of 28.1 percent.

To date, 13 fatalities were related to drugs only (5), alcohol only (2), or a combination of both (6).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
