Cooking fire damages Hilo home

A Hilo home was damaged by a kitchen fire Saturday evening.

Firefighters responded to the 7:24 p.m. call to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the kitchen area of the home at 140 Alae St.

Firefighters had the fire extinguished in about 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Loss was estimated at $120,000, but fire crews saved property worth $85,000.
