Chef Ippy wins one for the U.S.A.

MEDIA RELEASE

Chef Ippy Aiona of The Three Fat Pigs Restaurant & Gastropub plus The Thirsty Wolf Lounge edged out Ecuadorian Chef Luis Barrazeuta and Chef Betty Vazquez of Mexico to win the semi-finals of the International Iron Chef Competition last Sunday night at the Hot & Spicy Food Festival in Toronto, Canada.

The competition, hosted by Iron Chef America’s Kevin Brauch at the famed Harbourfront Centre on Toronto’s waterfront was a sizzling showdown between chefs going head-to-head with other chefs and the clock.

Aiona came out on top with creative dishes infused with sauerkraut. It was Aiona’s spin on beef carpaccio with a sauerkraut foam mouse, sauerkraut tempura and arugula spaghetti that defeated runner-up Vazquez for the win.

“It was a tough decision to make, but Chef Ippy worked his culinary magic and turned the secret ingredient into a delicious gastronomic creation,” said Melanie Fernandez, Director of Community & Educational Programs at Harbourfront Centre.

“Our panel of culinary experts agreed that his creativity deserves recognition, which is what earned him the prestigious International Iron Chef title,” she said.

In addition to this latest title, Chef Ippy’s culinary achievements include being a finalist on the eighth season of Food Network Star and being recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the “Best 30 Under 30 in Food and Wine.”
