Two arrested for meth in Hawi

A Hawi man and woman are in police custody on drug charges after police served a search warrant at their house.

On Tuesday (Sept. 3), officers from the Area II Vice Section, along with Community Policing officers and North Kohala Patrol officers, served a search warrant on a home on Hiwahiwa Street.

They recovered 120 grams of a crystalline substance and paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine use and distribution.

Arrested at the scene were Steven Pang, 46, and Nicole Hayes, 26.

They were taken to the Kona police cellblock while Vice Section detectives continued the investigation.

Wednesday morning, Pang was charged with first-degree meth trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bail was set at $52,000.

Hayes was charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her bail was set at $4,000.

They remain at the cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 5).

Police encourage members of the public to report suspected narcotics activity to the Police Department’s Ice Hotlines at 329-”ZERO-ICE” (329-0423) for information pertaining to the Districts of Kaʻu, Kona, South Kohala and North Kohala, and at 934-”VICE” (934-8423) for information pertaining to the Districts of Puna, South Hilo, North Hilo and Hamakua.

Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe.
