Two fishing boats join Fair Wind fleet

MEDIA RELEASE

Fair Wind Big Island Ocean Guides has added two fishing vessels to their fleet. The Hokulia and Captain Jack join the Fair Wind II and Hula Kai at Keauhou Bay.

“Adding these two beautiful boats to Fair Wind’s ocean-going options will provide visitors and kamaaina even more reason to spend time on the water with us,” company vice president Mendy Dant said. “We are now able to offer everything from snorkeling and diving to deep sea fishing charters and more, all from the convenience of Keauhou Bay.”

Once owned by a private oceanfront community, the Hokulia is a Bertram sport fishing boat that measures 41 feet in length. This comfortable vessel offers spacious room for six guests for half, three-quarters, or full-day fishing charters.

The boat includes a “tuna tower” with large cockpit and big game fighting chair. The fully appointed air-conditioned main salon and galley are complemented by lower berth private staterooms, entertainment centers, toilet and shower.

The Hokulia, which is also ideal for private charters for shoreline cruising, will be renamed when an online naming contest concludes in September.

Capt. Jack is a Powerboat Flybridge sport fishing boat with an established reputation on the Kona Coast for its size and comfort. Capt. Jack, which can also accommodate up to six passengers, is 43 feet in length. Its design features an open cockpit area and central big game fighting chair. A well-ventilated interior with small galley and booth-style seating add to Capt. Jack’s appeal.

It will begin service with Fair Wind on Oct. 1 when it exits dry dock following interior upgrades.

Charter fishing excursions aboard the Hokulia and Capt. Jack can be booked by calling the Fair Wind office at 808-322-2788. Rates range from $109 per person for a half-day shared charter on the Capt. Jack (minimum of four persons per shared charter) to $900 for a full day charter of the Hokulia.

Fair Wind’s other vessels include the Fair Wind II which offers morning and afternoon snorkel sails to Kealakekua Bay with the opportunity to experience SNUBA. The more exclusive Hula Kai also offers morning snorkel adventures, sea rocket rentals, SNUBA, and nighttime manta ray snorkel and dive adventures.
