Hawaii Pacific DEEG founder Dr. Michael B. Russo announced the grand opening of Hale Lamalama Kaili (House of the Radiant Spirit of Health) noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 (pupus from 2 to 4 p.m.).

The public is encouraged to stop by the new health-focused B&B spa located in Hilo at 1335 Kalanianaole Ave. in the thatched roof, Balinese-style home familiar to many local residents.

This first-of-a-kind healing B&B center will offer a wide variety of activities and amenities aimed to help guests both physically and spiritually.

Hale Lamalama innkeepers will coordinate classes and activities, including hiking, biking, trail running, yoga, Tai Chi, massages, acupuncture, aroma therapy and essential oil treatments. Ukulele and Hawaiian crafts lessons are other options that are available.

The theme of well-being is also seen in the assortment of locally grown produce offered for breakfast, including varieties of banana, pineapple, papaya, citrus, avocado, coconut, lychee, guava, passion fruit, dragon fruit and other seasonal specialties. Fresh, organic eggs from local chickens and fresh goat milk and cheese are also offered.

Initially founded for patients of his neurology and brain injury diagnostic and treatment center, Russo wanted to create a place where people could go to escape and prioritize their overall health and wellness.

“Hale Lamalama Kaili is a B&B spa dedicated to sustaining and improving the physical and spiritual health of our guests,” Russo said. “The goal was to create a wellness retreat and relaxation center for my patients and for anyone else looking to reconnect and center their mind and body. My hope is that Hale Lamalama will offer that very special spiritual sanctuary we all long for and need so much, especially in today’s fast-paced world.”

To celebrate the grand opening, Hale Lamalama is offering a free night stay for married couples who want to renew their vows. Rates start at $100 a night.
