Senate Committee on Ways & Means visits Puna (Aug. 21)

On Aug. 21, as part of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means‘ (WAM) two day visit to Hawaii Island, Sen. Russell Ruderman will host the group on a tour of sites in Puna.

The Senators will visit the Puna Community Medical Center, Pahoa Public Library, and Pohoiki Boat Ramp. The need for emergency medical facilities, a new library and safe swim area in Puna will be discussed.

The Senators will also experience the drive from Hilo to Pahoa along perilous State Highway 130 and visit the site of the proposed Pahoa roundabout.

The group toured West Hawaii facilities Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Leading the group is Chairman of the committee, Sen. David Ige, and Vice Chair, Sen. Michelle Kidani. Senate President, Donna Mercado Kim, will also join the WAM committee on this trip.

The visits on Hawaii Island include facility tours of state facilities and briefings to update the Senators on programs, projects, and concerns on Hawaii Island.
