Police DUI stats for the week of July 29-August 4, 2013

During the week of July 29, 2013, through August 4, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 730 DUI arrests compared with 813 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 804 major accidents so far this year compared with 872 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent.

So far this year, there were 19 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.4 percent.

To date, eight fatalities were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
