The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation was created 16 years ago when Frank and Laura Sayre lost their son in a hiking accident.

It took the fire and rescue team 10 hours and perilous efforts to recover Daniel Sayre’s body. The family found out later that with the proper equipment, the fire/rescue team could have made the recovery much quicker and without putting their own lives at risk.

The Daniel Robert Sayre Memorial Foundation was founded to honor the dedication of Hawai`i Island fire and rescue workers and to help purchase essential rescue equipment.
