Community memorial service and festival

Saturday, July 20th is the annual Obon Service and Bon Dance.

Preceding the dance is the 110th annual Community Memorial Service. (“Obon”).  A main function of this event is to provide family and friends of loved ones who have passed on in the previous 12 months an opportunity to remember and honor those loved ones in a group and community setting.

The Honokaa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple is inviting anyone in the community who has lost a family member or friend to take part in the service by having the name of their loved one announced, and to offer incense as a gesture of remembrance and to honor their memory.

Neither those attending nor the deceased need to be members of the temple or Buddhist.

To participate:

1.  Notify Reverend Yagi of the name of the deceased by calling (775 7232) or e-mailing (KosmosHI@gmail.com),

2.  Attend the 6 pm service, Saturday, July 18.  Arrive to early; sign in sheet will be at front entrance of the temple) and

3.  Go forward with friends and family to offer incense when the name of your loved one is called. You may also step forward to support and show respect when the name of any other community member is called.
