During the week of June 17, 2013, through June 23, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 11 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 605 DUI arrests compared with 673 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 651 major accidents so far this year compared with 706 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent.
So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 14 during the same period last year, an increase of 28.6 percent.
To date, four fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (2).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
