Police DUI Stats for the week of June 3-9, 2013

During the week of June 3, 2013, through June 9, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 15 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One driver was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 570 DUI arrests compared with 630 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 618 major accidents so far this year compared with 673 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 17 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 14 during the same period last year, an increase of 21.4 percent.

To date, four fatalities were related to drugs only (1), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (2).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
