Akaka honored as parade grand marshal (June 15)

MEDIA RELEASE

The honorable Sen. Daniel Akaka will be honored as grand marshal of the King Kamehameha Day Parade in Kailua-Kona on Saturday, June 15.

He will be accompanied by members of his family, including daughter-in-law, Anna, who will be leading an equestrian unit as this year’s Pa‘u Queen.

This year’s parade is 9-11 a.m. on Alii Drive, from Royal Kona Resort to Kailua Pier and up Palani Road.

After the parade, a hoolaulea (Hawaiian music and crafts fair) will include a free concert featuring three-time male Vocalist of the Year and Hoku Hanohano award winner Nathan Aweau.

The event will take place at at Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel beginning at 11:45 a.m.
