Flood advisory issued due to heavy rains in West Hawaii

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii County until 1:15 a.m. Saturday (May 4).

At 10:04 p.m. weather radar showed a line of heavy showers extending from Hawi and South to Waikoloa Village. The line of heavy showers was nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Mahukona and Kawaihae.

People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
