The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 2 a.m. Tuesday (April 30).

At 10:42 p.m. weather radar showed persistent moderate to heavy showers continuing over portions of the Kona area from Kona Village Resort to Keahole Point to North of Kailua-Kona town. The showers were nearly stationary.

Additional showers will also move slowly South over the area from Puao to the Kona Village Resort including near the Waikoloa Beach Resort area.

People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not attempt to cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
