MEDIA RELEASE
Hoola Spa at Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay has debuted Hawaii’s first Himalayan Salt Room.
Widely-used for centuries in Europe, large amounts of salt in an environment creates pure, bacteria-free air that can be therapeutic. Salt Therapy, while neither a medical treatment nor replacement for medical care, can be a complementary and drug-free approach that offers adjunct support in relieving respiratory and skin conditions.
“We are proud that Hoola Spa has made this considerable investment to provide the new Salt Room as a natural therapy for our spa-going guests,” said Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa General Manager and Area Managing Director Steve Lindburg. “Many may be unfamiliar with the therapy so we look forward to positive feedback from those who experience it.”
It is believed that breathing in superfine particles of salt cleanses the lungs of bacteria, irritants and pollution and reduces inflammation of the respiratory tract. Salt Therapy also supports the look and health of skin.
In Europe, numerous state-supported clinics and hospitals prescribe recurrent exposure to such environments for the treatment of ailments ranging from chronic bronchitis and bronchial asthma to sinusitis, allergies and obstructive pulmonary disease.
Hoola Spa’s Halotherapy Salt Generator is the first model that is capable of producing particles of salt as small as 0.3 microns in consistent quantity. Sea Salt Therapy patrons simply sit and relax in
Relaxing in Hoola Spa Salt Room the salt room for 30 minutes and breathe in fine salt particles, which are circulating in the room. The salt particles are extremely fine in this man-made microclimate ensuring that they reach even the smallest bronchia and alveolar in the lungs while not irritating the respiratory tract. (Alveolar macrophages are part of the lungs’ innate defense system and they play an essential role in the clearance of bacterial infections).
Cost per 30-minute session is just $45 or complimentary when used before or after a spa body treatment or massage.
In the Salt Room, beautiful panels decorating the walls are actually large crystals of pure Himalayan Pink Salt.
The crystals, which are hand-mined, are derived from salt from an evaporated ancient sea more than 250-million years old. They have been exposed to enormous pressure for millions of years causing unique crystal formations.
Himalayan Salt typically contains more than 80 minerals and elements, uncontaminated with toxins or pollutants. The pink color is due to its high content of iron oxide.
Complementing the new Salt Room, body treatments at Hoola Spa include purifying body glows with herbs, Hawaiian sea salts and nourishing and toning body wraps. Traditional and international massage techniques are combined to reduce stress and enhance the feeling of wellness.
Hoola Spa also offers a full range of beauty treatments, including hair service, manicures and pedicures. Hoola Spa is owned and operated by Hawaiian Rainforest LLC.
