If you have not discovered Monstera, located at the Shops at Mauna Lani, you are in for a big treat.

Chef Norio Yamamoto, originally from The Fairmont Orchid, brings a consistent approach to enjoy great sushi/sashimi, along with homestyle Udon noodles.

Appetizers include roasted Kombucha squash, sauteed sugar peas, along with other traditional Japanese dishes.

Monstera is now rated No. 4 in all Hawaiian islands of Japanese restaurants.

We were sitting at the sushi bar one evening, when the diners next to us mentioned they were from Kukio enjoying a whole fish. I asked them how they liked their fish, and they looked at me and gave a smile.

The sashimi platter melted in my mouth.

Udon noodles enough to split between two people.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you select from a great wine list, sake hot or cold and a good beer selection.

Yum yum. The word is out about this wonderful place.
