Average gas prices in Hawaii rise 2.9 cents per gallon the past week

Hawaii, April 8- Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 2.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $4.37/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.58/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Hawaii during the past week, prices yesterday were 24.3 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are unchanged versus a month ago. The national average has decreased 9.3 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 32.8 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

“Americans are spending $108 million less on gasoline every day than they were a year ago,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. “Prices in nearly all Metropolitian Statistical Areas are lower today than a year ago. In all, 300 Metropolitan Statistical Areas saw cheaper first quarter prices for gasoline than in 2012, with two MSAs showing no statistically significant change. More expensive markets in 2013 included locations in Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. The most expensive market in the country was the Honolulu area, but the outright price of $4.157 gal this year was just 3cts gal above the 2012 number,” DeHaan said.
