High wind warning issued for Big Island summits, small craft advisory also issued

A high wind warning is in effect for Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea until 9 a.m. Monday morning (April 1).

Big Island summit areas above 8,000 feet are forecast to have winds of 35-50 mph with localized gusts up to 60 mph or more.

These winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving.

A small craft advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Honolulu for the Alenuihaha Channel and Big Island Windward waters until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Rough seas of 10-13 feet are forecast. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions.
