MEDIA RELEASE

St. Columba Episcopal Mission, located in Paauilo, will experience a resurrection of sorts, a “replant,” on Easter Sunday with Mass and Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m.

The cfhurch is located just below the Paauilo Elementary and Intermediate School and mauka of the Mamalahoa highway between mile markers 37 and 36.

Established in 1898 to serve the owners, managers and workers of the Hamakua Sugar Company, the small congregation, along with the help and support of the congregation of St. James, Waimea, and other Episcopal Churches on the Big Island, will seek to attract new members from a growing population all up and down the Hamakua Coast from Kukuihailae, Honokaa, to Laupahoehoe.

The shurch congregation, following the best practices of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Hawaii and the U.S.A., will be biblical, spirit-filled, progressive, inclusive, child-friendly, worship, fun, justice-for-the-poor, centered Christianity.

The Rev. Tom Buechele has been named missioner. Buechele served as vicar of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in North Kohala for five years, and has served as interim priest at Holy Apostles, Hilo and St. Jude, Ocean View.

Services will be every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. All are invited.
