Police DUI stats for the week of March 18-24, 2013

During the week of March 18, 2013, through March 24, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 31 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 308 DUI arrests compared with 334 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 293 major accidents so far this year compared with 358 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven fatalities during the same period last year, an increase of 57.1 percent.

To date, two fatalities related to drugs only (2), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
