Police DUI stats for the week of March 11-17, 2013

During the week of March 11, 2013, through March 17, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 36 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 277 DUI arrests compared with 302 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 274 major accidents so far this year compared with 332 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17.5 percent.

So far this year, there were ten traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven fatalities during the same period last year, an increase of 42.9 percent.

To date, two fatalities related to drugs only (2), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
