Big Island land closures for the week of March 18-22, 2013

All projects are weather permitting.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY —

1) VICINITY OF CAPTAIN COOK

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Kiloa Road and Rabbit Hill Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for slope stabilization work.

2) VICINITY OF KA’APUNA TO KAOHE

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Waiea Road and Yee Hop Ranch Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for pavement resurfacing.

3) VICINITY OF KAINALIU

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Ha’awina Street and St. Paul Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for slope stabilization work.

4) MAKALEI

Alternating single lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway in both directions between Hina Lani Street/North Kona Belt Road and Old Kona Village Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for roadway reconstruction.

5) VICINITY OF NAALEHU

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between South Point Road and Punaluu Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for water line installations.

— HAWAII BELT ROAD—

1) VICINITY OF KALOPA

Alternating lane closures on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in both directions between Kahawai Road and Hauola Road on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, for guardrail installations.

— VOLCANO ROAD —

1) VICINITY OF KEAAU

Contra-flow on Volcano Road (Route 11): Volcano-bound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic, Hilo-bound lanes will be reduced to single lane for vehicles, buses, trucks with 15,000 GVWR or more and trucks with trailers. Contra-flow pattern to be in effect beginning Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, daily, for roadway reconstruction work.

2) VICINITY OF KULANI ROAD

Alternating single lane closures on Volcano Road (Route 11) in both directions in the vicinity of Kulani Road between South Pszyk Road and Kukui Camp Road, on Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for roadway striping and traffic signal installation work.

South Hilo

Mooheau Bus Terminal parking lot will be closed Monday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 19.

The county Department of Public Works, Traffic Division staff will stripe the parking lot at the Mooheau Bus Terminal.

Crews will close the parking lot late Sunday night in preparation for the roadwork. The parking lot will remain closed until Tuesday at 5 p.m, when it reopens.

Kona

Tree trimming along Mamalahoa Highway, March 18-22

The county Highway Maintenance Division staff will trim trees Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22 along Mamalahoa Highway.

Alternating lane closures between the hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at St John’s Church Rd in Kealakekua, in South Kona and end in Honalo, North Kona.

Motorists are asked to use the Mamalahoa Bypass Highway to avoid delays in Kainaliu and Honalo.

Roadwork is weather permitting.
