DUI stats for the week of March 4-10, 2013

During the week of March 4, 2013, through March 10, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 31 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 241 DUI arrests compared with 273 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 244 major accidents so far this year compared with 301 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.9 percent.

So far this year, there were nine traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with seven during the same period last year, an increase of 28.6 percent.

To date, two fatalities related to drugs only (2), alcohol only (0), or a combination of both (0).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
