MEDIA RELEASE

It is Rodeo time in Hilo on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 17. If it’s fun and some “on my gosh” moments you want, that is what you will find at the 21st Annual Panaewa Stampede Rodeo.

This great rodeo is at the Panaewa Equestrian Center, just outside of Hilo off of Highway 11, next to the Zoo. The rodeo starts at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

For the first time ever, the grandstand is covered in case of Hilo’s wonderful liquid sunshine.

The rodeo has traditional events including bull riding, bronco riding, team roping, barrel racing, and a grand opening ceremony with the Rodeo Queen and her court. Plus, there will be events only done in Hawaii such as poo wai u and double mugging.

Cowboys, cowgirls and keiki from across Hawaii, with some contestants from the mainland, will compete for saddles, buckles and money prizes. Two special events are for spectators who can win $500 playing Hula Bulls or Cowboy Poker with the bulls.

Nationally renowned rodeo clown JJ Harrison will be entertaining the crowd all weekend long with announcer Buster Barton. Plus, world famous Rodeo clown Rowdy Barry will make an appearance.

Pre-Sale Tickets are $5 and available from Rodeo Queen Contestants and at Coldwell Banker Day-Lum Properties at 2 Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo.

Entrance at the gate is $7. Children 12 years and under are free.
