Kilauea Avenue road resurfacing starts today (Feb 13)


Road resurfacing the mauka lane on Kīlauea Avenue begins this afternoon (Feb 13) starting from Pauahi Street to Aupuni Street.

  • One lane in the Puna direction is available for travel between Pauahi Street and Aupuni Street.
  • Special Duty Officers will redirect motorists traveling in the Hāmākua direction at Aupuni Street.
  • When Special Duty Officers direct traffic onto Pauahi Street from Aupuni Street, left turns are permitted. Otherwise, left turns are not permitted.
  • Left turns are permitted onto Kīlauea Avenue from Aupuni Street. Right turns are not.
  • “No parking” will be enforced on Kīlauea Avenue between Pauahi Street and Aupuni Street.
  • Two lanes, of traffic will be open to motorists, one lane in each direction, after construction is done for the day.

One lane for Puna -bound travel will move to the mauka lane on Kīlauea Avenue February 14, as road construction will be on the makai lane.

The contractor’s schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and if work occurs on the weekend and holidays, the schedule is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Roadwork is weather permitting. Traffic patterns may change.
