Work continues on Kilauea Avenue

Roadwork and traffic patterns on Kilauea Avenue from the Puna side of the Pauahi Street intersection to Aupuni Street:

During construction, restrictions affecting on street parking and lane closures are in effect.

The schedule is 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and if work occurs on the weekend and holidays, the schedule is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No parking will be enforced on Kilauea Avenue between Wilson Lane and Aupuni Street.

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 12, one lane will be available to travel and only in the Puna direction between Pauahi and Aupuni Street.

Motorists traveling in the Hamakua direction will be redirected at Aupuni Street by special duty police officers.

Left turns will be allowed onto Pauahi from Aupuni Street.

Motorists on Aupuni Street will be allowed to turn left onto Kilauea Avenue. Right turns will be not permitted.

The work is weather permitting.

This traffic pattern will remain in effect for the next two weeks and only during the hours of construction.

Roadwork and traffic pattern on Kilauea Avenue to Alenaio Bridge:

Two lanes one each way remain open 24/7.

Drainage improvements fronting Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and at Kukuau Street are scheduled for completion mid-February.

Installation of the new solar powered crosswalk fronting Kaikoo Seeds & Things is scheduled for completion around the same time.

The county anticipates completion of the Kilauea Avenue project from Alenaio Bridge to Aupuni Street prior to the start of the world’s largest hula festival, the Merrier Monarch Festival.
