Big Island Lane closures for the week of Feb. 11-15, 2013

All projects are weather permitting.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY —

1) VICINITY OF CAPTAIN COOK

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Kiloa Road and Rabbit Hill Road in the vicinity of Captain Cook, on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, for bank stabilization work.

2) VICINITY OF KAAPUNA TO KAOHE

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Waiea Road and Yee Hop Ranch Road in the vicinity of Kaapuna to Kaohe on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, for roadway reconstruction work.

3) VICINITY OF KAINALIU

Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in both directions between Haawina Street and St. Paul Road in the vicinity of Kainaliu on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, for bank stabilization work.

4) MAKALEI

Alternating single lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway in both directions between Hina Lani Street/North Kona Belt Road and Old Kona Village Road on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for roadway reconstruction work.

— HAWAII BELT ROAD—

1) VICINITY OF KALOPA

Alternating lane closures on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in both directions between Kahawai Road and Hauola Road, in the vicinity of Kalopa, on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, for guardrail installations.

— VOLCANO ROAD —

1) VICINITY OF KEAAU

Contra-Flow on Volcano Road (Route 11): Volcano-bound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic, Hilo-bound lanes will be reduced to single lane for vehicles, buses, trucks with 15,000 GVWR or more and trucks with trailers. Contra-Flow pattern to be in effect beginning Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, for roadway reconstruction work.

— KILAUEA AVENUE —

Road resurfacing for Kilauea Avenue continues to Aupuni Street in South Hilo on Monday, Feb 11

Additional roadwork consisting of reconstruction, resurfacing, and striping, on Kilauea Avenue from the Puna side of the Pauahi Street intersection to Aupuni Street will begin Monday Feb. 11.

Traffic patterns and on street parking will be affected by the roadwork. Special Duty Police Officers will direct motorists.

Due to road reconstruction, only one lane will be available for travel from Feb. 12 and only during construction hours, weather permitting. The construction work schedule is 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. If work occurs over the weekend, the contractor’s schedule is 7 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The county anticipates completion of the Kilauea Avenue project from Alenaio Bridge to Aupuni Street prior to the start of the world’s largest hula festival, the Merrie Monarch Festival.

The $2.1 million capital improvement project for Kilauea Avenue from Alenaio Bridge to Pauahi Street came in under budget at $1.5 million making it possible to extend the work to Aupuni Street.
