Join the Chinese New Year celebration Friday, Feb. 8 at Kings’ Shops. Bring in the Year of The Snake with a traditional Lion Dance at 6 p.m. performed by the Big Island Shaolin Arts Group.
The lion will proceed through the center stopping at stores who have cabbage and Lai See (red envelopes containing money). The procession is accompanied by the music of beating drums, cymbals, and gong instruments synchronized to the lion dance movements and actions.
It is believed that the lion dance will bring good luck and fortune to the businesses. Individuals can also present the lion with red envelopes to receive a blessing of good luck and fortune.
Bring your sweetheart along with your good luck and fortune to Arts Under the Stars 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
