High surf advisory for East facing shores until Saturday (Jan 12)

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for East facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. Saturday (Jan 12).

Rough and choppy surf is forecast to be in the six to eight foot range and up to 10 feet on Saturday. Coastal areas can expect strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed the advice given by ocean safety officials and be careful. Know your limits and when in doubt, don’t go out.

A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday (Jan 12) for all coastal waters except Maui County leeward waters.
