DUI stats for the period of January 1-6, 2013

During the week of January 1, 2013, through January 6, 2013, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 19 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 19 DUI arrests compared with 18 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 13 major accidents so far this year compared with 22 during the same period last year, an increase of 40.9 percent.

So far this year, there were no traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with none during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
