The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the high surf advisory for the Kona-Kohala coast until 6 a.m. Tuesday (Jan 1).
Surf is forecast to be 6 to 10 feet in height with possible locally higher sets. The large breaking waves will cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone including deadly rip currents.
Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water due to hazardous shore breaks and wave action.
A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday (Jan 1) for all Hawaiian waters except for Maalaea Bay.
