The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf warning for East facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 a.m. Sunday (Dec 23). A high surf advisory has been issued for North facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

Surf is forecast to be in the 10 to 15 foot range for East facing shores peaking this evening then lowering Sunday. The high surf will cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone including deadly rip currents. Battering waves will pound the shoreline.

Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and away from shore breaks due to the hazardous wave action.

Surges are likely for Hilo and Kahului Harbors. The North swell will peak today then gradually lower on Sunday. Mariners should exercise caution when entering or leaving port and when mooring or launching vessels.

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday (Dec 23) for all windward waters, the Kauai, Kaiwi, Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels, Maalaea Bay and waters South of the Big Island.
